KMS OF COMPASSION

When is KMs of Compassion?

  • KMs of Compassion is held all year round. We always have Team ASRC at Bridge to Brisbane, Sydney Running Festival and the Melbourne Marathon Festival, so join our fundraising team or take part in your own way by participating in another event or setting your own challenge to have some fun, raise money and stand with people seeking asylum. Join Team ASRC here.

What is Kilometres of Compassion?

  • Kilometres of Compassion (KMs of Compassion) the ASRC’s flagship community fundraising activity. It isn’t just one event, it is hundreds of people throughout Australia taking part in different public events and setting their own challenges to raise funds to support refugees and people seeking asylum.

You can join Team ASRC and clock up your KMs of Compassion by participating in any public running, walking, cycling or swimming event in your community, or by setting your own challenge. You could do a marathon, a triathlon, a 5km fun run or a mountain hike. Simply have fun, raise money and show your support for refugees and people seeking asylum.

The funds you raise along the way will enable people seeking asylum to access healthcare, food security, legal support and more.

No matter which public event you enter, or how you move, you can champion hope and empower people seeking asylum as part of Team ASRC.

Do I have to physically run to participate in KMs of Compassion?

  • No! You can run, walk, roll, swim, cycle, skip, jog or push a pram. Whatever you do, you are championing hope and empowering people seeking asylum by participating and raising funds for the ASRC.

Can I do my own challenge (AKA a “virtual event”) or hold my own KMs of Compassion event?

  • Absolutely. If you have an idea for a public event or your own challenge you would like to organise, we’d love to hear about it! Drop us an email at kms@asrc.org.au.

You can also join our virtual ASRC Challenge to clock up your Kilometres of Compassion in November 2023. Watch this space for updates.

Do I need to pay to participate in KMs of Compassion?

There is no registration fee to participate in KMs of Compassion. However, if you are partaking in a large event such as the Melbourne Marathon Festival, you will still need to register directly with the organiser and pay the entry fee.

Is KMs of Compassion COVIDSafe?

If you enter a large public event (such as Melbourne Marathon Festival), the event organisers of that activity are responsible for following local COVIDSafe guidelines and hosting the event in a COVIDSafe way. Be sure to follow their instructions and measures. If you choose to hold your own activity, such as a daily run, please be sure to follow the COVID restrictions and guidelines outlined by your local Government.

  • The ASRC Challenge will be back in 2023, and how it works is simple!

Set yourself a personal challenge; exactly how you clock up your Kilometres of Compassion or how far you go is up to you, but make it meaningful, something beyond your usual workout. Do I have to exercise? Can’t I do something else?

  • You can do something else, but remember, the harder the challenge is, the more motivated your friends, family or colleagues will be to donate toward your fundraising target, and whatever you do, you are championing hope and empowering people seeking asylum by participating and raising funds for the ASRC.

Can I do it with other people?
