Kilometres of Compassion

Do I need to pay to participate in KMs of Compassion?

  • There is no registration fee to participate in KMs of Compassion.

How do I participate in KMs of Compassion and how far do I need to go?

  • It's simple! Set yourself a personal challenge to achieve on Sunday 21 November. Exactly what you do, and how many kilometres you cover is up to you, but make it meaningful, something beyond your usual (lockdown) workout. Your commitment to your challenge will motivate your friends, family or colleagues to donate toward your fundraising target.

But remember, no matter where you are, how far you go, or how you move, you can support refugees, join us today

What kind of exercise do I have to do?

  • Set yourself a personal challenge, exactly what you do, and how far you go is up to you. You could run, walk, swim, cycle, kayak, rollerblade or dance, the choice is endless. But make your challenge meaningful and something beyond your norm that will motivate others to donate toward your fundraising target.

Do I have to exercise? Can't I do something else?

  • You can do something else, but remember, the harder the challenge is, the more motivated your friends, family or colleagues will be to donate toward your fundraising target, and whatever you do, you are championing hope and empowering people seeking asylum by participating and raising funds for the ASRC.

Can I do it with other people?

  • Yes! When you register, you can choose to create a team then you will be the team captain and have a team page AND individual page created for you. Your individual page will be joined to your team page and displayed as a team member.

If you wish to join an existing team, you will need to know the name of the person who created the team (team captain) or the name of the team you want to join. You can search for them and join the team when you register.

Whatever activity you decide to do, please ensure you follow the COVID restrictions and guidelines outlined by your local Government.

My question hasn’t been answered here, how do I contact you for more information about Km for Compassion?

Run 4 Refugees

What is Run 4 Refugees?

  • Run 4 Refugees is the ASRC’s flagship community fundraising activity. It isn’t just one event, it is hundreds of people throughout Australia taking part in different public events and setting their own challenges to raise funds to support refugees and people seeking asylum.

You can Run 4 Refugees your way by participating in any public running or walking event in your community, or by setting your own challenge. That’s right, you can walk or push a pram or wheel a wheelchair, you don’t have to run. Simply have fun, raise money and show your support for refugees and people seeking asylum.

The funds you raise along the way will enable people seeking asylum to access healthcare, food security, legal support and more.

No matter which public event you enter, or how you move, you can champion hope and empower people seeking asylum as part of Team ASRC.

When is Run 4 Refugees?

  • Run 4 Refugees is held all year round. We always enter a team in Bridge to Brisbane, Sydney’s City2Surf and the Melbourne Marathon Festival, so join our fundraising team or take part in your own way by participating in another event or setting your own challenge to have some fun, raise money and stand with people seeking asylum.

Do I have to physically run to participate in Run 4 Refugees?

  • No! You can run, walk, roll, skip, jog or push a pram. Whatever you do, you are championing hope and empowering people seeking asylum by participating and raising funds for the ASRC.

Can I run/walk on my own (AKA a “virtual event”) or hold my own Run 4 Refugees event?

  • Absolutely. Join our virtual campaign Kilometres of Compassion to complete your challenge on Sunday 21st November.

If you have an idea for a public event you would like to organise, we’d love to hear about it! Drop us an email at run@asrc.org.au.

Do I need to pay to participate in Run 4 Refugees?

There is no registration fee to participate in Run 4 Refugees. However, if you are partaking in a large event such as the Melbourne Marathon, you will still need to register directly with the organiser and pay the entry fee.

What do I receive in my Run 4 Refugees kit?

As well as tips and tricks to make your fundraising a success, your Run 4 Refugees kit will include a Team ASRC purple t-shirt which is light and breathable, and perfect to run (or walk) in.

Is Run 4 Refugees COVIDSafe?

If you enter a large public event (such as Melbourne Marathon), the event organisers of that activity are responsible for following local COVIDSafe guidelines and hosting the event in a COVIDSafe way. Be sure to follow their instructions and measures. If you choose to hold your own activity, such as a daily run, please be sure to follow the COVID restrictions and guidelines outlined by your local Government.

My question hasn’t been answered here, how do I contact you for more information about Run 4 Refugees?

Fundraising & the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre

What will the funds raised be used for?

All funds are donated directly to the Asylum Seeker Resource Center and used to support the ASRC’s work with people seeking asylum. See Our Work for more details on the services your funds help support and Your Impact to see the difference you can make.

Where can I get more information about the work of the ASRC?

Visit our website at www.asrc.org.au or have a look at Your Impact page for more information about the services your funds help support and the difference your fundraising can make.

How do I raise funds?

When you register to Run 4 Refugees, a personal fundraising page will be created for you. You can personalise your page and make edits to it.
You can share your fundraising page in a variety of ways (for example through social media, email, text messaging and WhatsApp) and ask your friends and family to donate directly to it. We have some useful Resources to help you promote your page and some suggested wording in the email template.
You will also receive a donation box in your Run 4 Refugees kit in the post. These boxes can be displayed at your workplace for cash donations.

How can people donate?

Get friends, family and colleagues to donate directly on your personal fundraising page, that way the money comes directly to the ASRC automatically and they’ll receive a tax receipt (for any donations over $2) automatically.

I received a donation on Facebook but it isn’t appearing on my page

While we don’t encourage using Facebook Fundraising, we also don’t want your incredible fundraising efforts to be missed in the final tally. Please email us on run@asrc.org.au with how much you have raised through Facebook so we can keep an eye out for it.

I received a cash donation, how do I add this?

You can add cash donations to your fundraising page by clicking ‘Donate’ and then selecting ‘Deposit Collected Funds’ to add the cash to your page using your credit or debit card. A Non-Tax Deductible receipt will be issued for this transaction.

I’m having trouble with setting up my fundraising page – Where can I get help?

For help setting up your page please contact run@asrc.org.au.

How do I reset my password?

If you’re struggling to login to your fundraising page, reset your password by clicking Login on the top right of the Run 4 Refugees page and select Forgot your Password?

How can I change my fundraising goal?
